The effects of Ventilago madrasapatana Gaertn (whole plant) on anti-inflammatory and free radical scavenger activity were investigated. In our present study, in-vitro antioxidant activity of extract was evaluated by DPPH radical scavenging and reducing power assay using ascorbic acid as standard. The results of the both assay showed that the extracts of V.madrasapatana (VM) possess significant free radical scavenging and reducing power properties at concentration-dependent manner which might be due to the presence of Flavonoids, Phenols, Saponins, Tanins and Phenolic compounds found in the preliminary phytochemical screening. Anti-inflammatory activity of extract was carried out by both in-vitro (HRBC Method) and invivo (Carragenan induced paw edema) models using diclofenac sodium as reference drug. The groups treated with extracts (250mg/kg and 500mg/kg) significantly reduced increased paw volume induced by carragenan in dose dependent manner and also showed stabilization toward HRBC membrane at higher concentration i.e 1000μg/ml.
