Kolakhar is a food additive which is prepared from the ashes of banana plants in Assam. Due to its alkaline in nature, people use it to wash clothes and locally it is used as an antacid. This work has investigated its anthelmintic activity taking albendazole as a standard drug. Due to the anatomical and physiological similarities of intestinal round worm parasite of human, Pheretima posthuma was used in the experiment. Kolakhar was showed the anthelmintic activity. In a dose dependent manner, the activity was also increased in case of standard and as well as in the test group. Kolakhar at a concentration of 60mg/ml showed paralysis at 4.78 minutes and death of earth worm at 60.25 minutes.
