The aim of the present study to evaluate the anthelmenthic activity of ethanolic and aqueous extract of roots of Glycyrrhiza glabra using Indian earth worms Pheretima posthuma as test worms. Three concentrations (25, 50 and 100 mg/ml) of various extracts were tested and results were expressed interms of time for paralysis and time for death of worms. Albendazole (25 mg/ml) was used as reference standard andcarboxy methyl cellulose (0.5%) as a control group. Dose dependent activity was observed in both aqueous and ethanolic extract of the plant. Ethanolic extract of 100mg/ml exhibited activity similar to that of standard. The anthelmintic activity of Glycyrrhiza glabra root extract has therefore been demonstrated for the first time.
