Acacia torta (Roxb.) Craib, traditionally used in respiratory, circulatory, digestive, musculo-skeletal, inflammatory, skin diseases etc., Numerous plants of this genus have been used in folk medicine to treat stomach pain, cough, diarrhoea, piles, sore-throat; as astringent, antipyretic, antimicrobial, antimalarial, antiviral, anti -oxidant and as anti-hypertensive. Recently, the same researchers have investigated the in vitro antioxidant activity of hydro alcoholic extract of the stem Acacia torta (Roxb.) Craib using DPPH radical scavenging assay and concentration was being (IC50 135.9 μg/ml), besides, the extract contains saponins, steroids, triterpenes, alkaloids and tannins and the same extract showed moderate antiinflammatory via lipoxygenase (LOX) inhibitory activity (unable to calculate IC50 value due less than 50% inhibition). These results suggest that this plant may be considered an interesting source of compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory via LOX for therapeutic and nutraceutical applications
